Passenger in Marina rollover crash dies, CHP suspect drug, alcohol was involved
MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) -- UPDATE 5:30 p.m. 9/22/2021: California Highway Patrol released new details on the fatal DUI crash that happened in Marina on Friday, September 17. CHP said they suspect drugs and alcohol might be a factor in the crash.
An 18-year-old was driving two 16-year-olds in a silver Ford Fusion going north on the 1 Highway when they lost control and rolled over near 8th Street. One of the 16-year-old passengers was ejected, landing in the center median, and died on scene. The other 16-year-old was transported local hospital for moderate injuries.
The 18-year-old was arrested and transported to Monterey County Jail for felony DUI. Drivers under the age of 21 are subject to Zero Tolerance law, which is stricter on underaged drivers.
UPDATE 4:00 P.M. 9/17/21: The passenger who was ejected during a rollover crash on Highway 1 and 8th Street in the Marina area has died.
CHP says the driver has been arrested on felony DUI charges.
No other information regarding the identity of the victim or the driver has been released at this time.

A woman has been transported to a local hospital after being ejected from a vehicle involved in a rollover crash in the Marina area.
CHP-Monterey said investigators are still on scene at Highway 1 and 8th Street.
The extent of the woman's injuries are not known at this time, however CHP said she was ejected into the center median along the Highway during this solo-vehicle crash.
The left lane close to the center divide is closed to traffic, but other lanes are open.
CHP is asking commuters to avoid the area if possible as they continue investigating.
