Salinas girl’s baking business takes off

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) A 10-year-old has launched a successful baking business where she sells a variety of sweets, including macarons, cakes and cupcakes. She describes herself as "your local 10-year-old baker.

Ariya Marquez is the owner of Butterfly Bakery and she started to sell cookies last Christmas, but she also began something special: learning how to bake French macarons.

After trying 20 times to get it just right, her macarons became ready to be packed and sold.

"I love to bake. I started baking since I was very little. I always used to put some random things in the oven", Marquez said.

But for Marquez, it's not just about making a profit. She has a very clear idea of what she wants in the future, so she is baking, saving money and working hard to make it.

"I wanna go to New York Film Academy. It's like my dream to become an actress, to be either in front of the camera or behind it”.

She sells macarons every weekend on Constitution and Cape Cod Way in Salinas.

Her mom, Sonja Singh, helps Ariya during the pop ups and deliveries. "She's my boss, so I help her with making the boxes like the macro boxes and I help her when has huge orders, I help her with, the macs and packaging them. I'm her delivery lady, so I'm going to help her make all her dreams come true" Singh said.

Ariya Butterfly Bakery is expanding to other cities on the Central Coast. \

A popular mexican band -- Los Horoscopos de Durango -- have even bought these macarons twice already.

Ariya says she combines online school with baking and she also wants to combine her business with the film academy somehow.
