UPDATE 11/20/2020 1:45 p.m. A 36-year-old Royal Oaks man has died as a result of a crash on Salinas Road.

The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol, when the man was driving west near Werner Road at an unknown, but possibly high, speed.

When the road curved to the right, the CHP said he lost control and went off the road and partially up an embankment. At that point he hit a tree.

The driver died at the scene, and nobody else was involved. The CHP is continuing to investigate the crash, but it is not known yet if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
