Soledad community to take a stand against alleged hate display
SOLEDAD, Calif. (KION)
Members and leaders of the Monterey County community are gathering to take a stand in solidarity against what they call a hate act.
This is referring to an incident on July 15, where resident Erika Padilla-Chavez found a vehicle carrying a crate with a TRUMP 2020 banner on it parked outside her home.
Chavez said in a Facebook post that she believes this was intentional because of her family's activism for social justice.
She also believes this was meant to offend the Latino community.
Many residents in the community are divided as to whether or not they believe this was an intentional act.
Today, Chavez and her family are speaking publicly for the first time to address their concerns.
The gathering will take place by Soledad City Hall at 11 a.m.
The Monterey County Sheriffs Office confirmed the vehicle carrying the display belongs to an employee.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
