SALINAS, Calif. (KION) A local computer shop is offering refurbished computers to kids who now have to attend school online.

Owner of Loaves, Fishes and Computers, Christian Mendelsohn, hopes to help families who do not have access to computers at home.

Schools in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties have decided to shut their doors to prevent Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread. This is in addition to many local libraries.

"The news kept coming in that schools were closing and moving to online. We decided to fill a possible need for families. We prepared a lot of computers to meet higher demand," said Mendelsohn.

230 desktops and laptops are ready to go to families who need them. All were once used by members of the community.

Desktops are being sold for $59-$89. Desktops come with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Laptops are being sold for $50.

Loaves, Fishes and Computers is accepting donations for families who can't cover the cost of a computer.
