Magnitude 5.8 earthquake strikes of Northern California coast.

(KION/AP) A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California Sunday evening.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey website, the magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit at 7:59 p.m. and was centered 70 miles southwest of Eureka.

The earthquake had a depth of 2.2 kilometers. There are no initial reports of damage. The National Tsunami Warning Center does not expect a tsunami to result from the earthquake.
