Seaside Police to use drones ahead of NYE illegal firework usage
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Police in Seaside say that they are preparing to crackdown on the use of illegal fireworks ahead of New Year's Eve.
Officials are also reminding people that all fireworks are illegal in Seaside, including the "safe and sane" variety.
“They're very dangerous," said Seaside Police Commander Justin Pascone. "People have harmed themselves and others [and] fires have been started as a result of firework usage."
The Seaside Police Department say that they are planning to have multiple drones in the city searching for people using fireworks. This, in addition to officers on the ground being directed by drone teams.
Seaside Police say that they've been using drones to track down people using illegal fireworks for a few years, and if they find people setting them off, those people can face fines up to $1,000 or even be arrested.
"It just creates chaos when there are multiple fireworks going off," said Commander Pascone.
