Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf reopens with brief ceremony Saturday morning
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Fred Keeley took the stage Saturday morning to kick-off the reopening of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf.
"When you build a mile of roadway above the water, you have to be very careful about how you maintain that generation after generation," he said. "It is safe to come to our wharf."
Mayor Keeley went on to applaud the celebratory moment: "We want to thank the wharf crew, the wharf crew, the wharf crew."
Scott Newsome, District 4 Supervisor, followed with a plethora of thank yous to the city workers; "Everyone stay after the ceremony to support local businesses."
Renee Golder of District 6, said that she worked on both the Boardwalk as well as the Wharf before joining the council. Then, she followed up with a statement on free parking for the month of January.
"First two hours of parking will be free for the month of January," said Golder. "$20 pass for locals to park free all month, $25 for non-locals."
Keeley wrapped up the ceremony with: "There are people here who have spent their entire life around this wharf. Surfers, fishers and workers... spend some time around here."
