Hit and run suspect arrested hours after man, dog killed in Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CHP Santa Cruz said a 54-year-old Watsonville man has been arrested in connection to a deadly hit and run where a man and dog were killed.

According to the CHP, a man was walking his dog around 2:46 a.m. near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Eddy Lane when an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on 7th Avenue struck the pedestrian and then fled the scene.

The pedestrian, an approximately 30-year-old man, and his dog sustained major injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, the CHP said.

The CHP said the suspect was eventually arrested, but was only identified by age and city of residence.
