Santa Cruz City Schools announces the return of free meals for the upcoming school year
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Santa Cruz City Schools announced that they will be offering free meals to all students for the 2024-2025 academic school year.
The National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs is offering any student, regardless of household income or other factors, a free breakfast and lunch. The California Universal Meals Program is providing these meals at all district schools: Bayview, Gault, Westlake, Delaveaga and Monarch Elementary Schools; Mission Hill and Branciforte Middle Schools; Santa Cruz, Harbor, Soquel and Costanoa High Schools; and Delta School, AFE and Ark Independent Studies.
“We’re thrilled to once again be able to give the support and the comfort of good meals to all of our students,” said Santa Cruz City Schools Director of Food and Nutrition Services Amy Hedrick-Farr. “Reliable, easy access to healthy food is something we’re very proud to provide.”
Santa Cruz City Schools is asking for interested families to fill out an application at sccs.net/food. By filling out this form, families also qualify for potential discounts on internet and phone bills, as well as college applications and SAT tests.
Additionally, access to unrestricted food promotes equity and connection, according to Santa Cruz City Schools. “Any time people break bread together, it creates a space for the creation and restoration of community,” said Santa Cruz City Schools Superintendent Kris Munro.
