Watsonville Police report that crime numbers dropped in 2024

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Watsonville Police Department announced Tuesday that crime rates are down in the city.

They said that new data shows nearly a 14% decrease in crime throughout the city during 2024. In addition to this, Watsonville Police say that in 2023 they saw five homicides whereas in 2024 there were none.

Police say this includes a drop in both violent (including homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault) as well as property crimes (burglary, larceny/theft and motor vehicle theft). They said that there was a small uptick in aggravated assault from 2023 to 2024; 478 to 480, respectively.

From 2020 to 2024, Watsonville police say that the overall crime rate went down a significant 33%.
