Santa Cruz County beetle infestation in north county

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The county's agriculture department announced Wednesday that there is an infestation of an invasive beetle that was found in the Felton area.

The county said that a person reported seeing damaged trees while on a hike near East Zayante Road and Graham Hill Road.

The beetle, identified as invasive shot hold borers can damage or kill a wide variety of trees, according to the county. They also say that while eradication of the beetle is extraordinarily difficult, property owners in that area can help by checking trees for signs of infestation. This includes small holes that are perfectly round.

Take the ISHB Detection Assessment to see if your tree has an infestation.
