MORGAN HILL, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Morgan Hill Police told KTVU that one person is dead following a shooting that took place Wednesday morning, marking the first homicide of the year.
KTVU reported that the crime happened in the 100-block of Tennet Avenue near Vineyard Boulevard.
The police were still on scene processing evidence during KTVU's report, and multiple residents said they heard gunfire between 7 and 8 a.m. at the Garden Park Apartments. Residents also told KTVU that they heard four or five gunshots, one at a time.
Officers said they found a man with at least one gunshot wound to his torso, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses at the scene identified the suspect to police, who arrested him without incident.
The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Jesus Garcia of Morgan Hill, and police say that they are still tying to find a motive for the shooting.
Another person who lives in the apartment building told KTVU that following the gunshots, they heard a woman screaming.
Police said that one victim, and unidentified man, was struck by the gunfire. They haven't provided additional details, including if a suspect is still on the loose, or if they've made an arrest.
Once the police have completed their investigation, the Santa Clara County coroner join the scene to remove the remains, which, according to KTVU, were near the sidewalk.
