The City of Salinas approves a map for a 187-acre subdivide on Boronda Rd.

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- In the Council Meeting on Tuesday, the City of Salinas approved the map of a new 187-acre lot subdivide on Boronda Rd. called the Central Area Specific Plan (CASP).

The approved map is the city's first step in developing the new subdivision and it includes constructing 1,674 dwelling units mixed between single and multifamily homes, according to the City of Salinas. The location would also offer parks and green space amenities.

"An affordable housing plan is required as part of the development to comply with the City's Inclusionary Housing Ordinance and requirements in the CASP," wrote the City of Salinas in a press release announcing the new development. "This is the first of multiple phases to this project."

The CASP was officially approved back in November 2020, and is the second of three planning areas within the City's Future Growth Area (FGA). Prior to this in 2019, according to the City of Salinas, both the West Area and East Area Specific plans (WASP and EASP, respectively) were approved.
