Three arrested in connection to shooting near Natividad Creek Park

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Salinas police confirmed a shooting near Natividad Creek Park on June 23 at approximately 9 p.m. The police received a call made by a woman who reported a man covered in blood running up to her and asking her to call 9-1-1. They received another call about a man running in the middle of the street with blood on his shirt.

When officers arrived on scene they spoke to witnesses who pointed them in the direction of the possible suspect's vehicle. Police found out later that a passerby picked up the victim and drove him to Natividad Medical Center (NMC).

The victim was treated for gunshot wounds to his leg, arm and chest, and is reported to be in stable condition, according to Salinas police. Additionally, officers were able to locate a crime scene within the park and successfully collected several pieces of evidence, the police say.

Officers found the possible suspect vehicle in the Madrone Dr. area. Police also detained three active gang members in addition to finding a stolen and loaded .380 caliber handgun near where the vehicle was pulled over, according to police. The arrested gang members were taken to Monterey County Jail on several charges.
