Salinas police arrest two attempted murder suspects after standoff
SALINAS, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 10/27/2020 10 a.m. Two men have been arrested on attempted murder charges after a standoff in Salinas Monday night.
Police responded to a report of two men seen hitting another man with a crowbar at Cesar Chavez Park, and when they got there, they found a 52-year-old man unresponsive. He was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Evidence led officers to an apartment in the 100 block of North Madeira Avenue near Terrace Street, and officers said they saw a possible suspect. A four-hour standoff began, and eventually the SWAT team responded. They were able to get into the apartment and find two suspects.
Rafael GonzaleZ, 23, was found in the garage and Ivan Casias Munoz, 30, was found in the attic. Both are booked into the Monterey County Jail.

PREVIOUS STORY: Police, including a SWAT team, have surrounded a structure inside a Salinas apartment complex for hours Monday night, calling for a person inside to come out.
The complex is on Terrace Street, near N. Madeira Avenue.
Police haven't released any information with KION at the scene about why they are at the complex, but at around 9 p.m., KION witnessed one person was taken out in handcuffs and police are still calling for another person to come outside.
Neighbors tell KION one of the suspects may have been involved in a physical altercation or incident earlier in the day and is now barricaded inside the structure.
This is a developing story.
