King City Police investigate threats against the city’s parade Friday; King City Police
KING CITY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The King City Police say that they received a suspicious phone call of threats or gang violence that may occur during the city's scheduled Christmas Parade on Friday evening.
According to police, the information came from one "reporting person" who said while he was walking near a cemetery Wednesday, when he thought he overheard a man talking about retaliating for
the recent gang shootings over a cell phone.
"The male on the phone did not name a particular target but did indicate it would occur at an intersection on the parade route," wrote police in a statement Friday.
Officers then conducted an investigation into the information provided but could not find substantiated evidence to confirm the plan.
They say that the investigation is ongoing and not yet conclusive, but that Friday's parade will continue as scheduled.
"The King City Police Department wants to ensure our community that we are doing everything we can to ensure that tonight’s parade is safe and enjoyable for everybody in attendance," according to police.
They said that they will have an additional 12 officers patrolling the parade route, as well as assistance from the Greenfield Police Department, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and private security.
