Large turnout for Monterey County Sheriff’s Office annual toy drive in Pajaro

PAJARO, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office hosted its annual toy drive Tuesday evening in Pajaro, welcoming hundreds of people and over 5,000 toys.

There were a variety of prizes available through a raffle as well as other games.

KION had a chance to speak to one of the prize winners.

"I like that I won and I like the car," said Carlos Perez Montejano, who took his daughter to the toy distribution.

Montejano won a set of headphones donated by the internationally known Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández.

“Alejandro Fernández’ donation to this year’s toy drive will help to bring happiness and smiles to many young faces in our communities," said Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto. "We thank him for his generosity.”

Fernández has made a generous donation of dolls and tour merchandise which will be distributed at multiple toy distribution events in the community of Pajaro.

In addition to the prizes and raffle items, there were also guitars, shirts and other paraphernalia from another musical group out of Mexico, Maná.
