Moss Landing stabbing suspect arrested Wednesday night; Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies

MOSS LANDING, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Monterey County Sheriff's Deputies said that they arrested 24-year-old Jose Luis Martinez Leonor of Moss Landing on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies say that they responded to the 100 block of Bluff Road in Moss Landing for a report of a stabbing Wednesday around 5 p.m. They say that when they got on scene, deputies were able to locate the victim who told sheriffs that he had been skateboarding near Trafton Road and Bluff Road when he was stabbed by someone who's known to live in the area.

The victim said that he was stabbed with a long bolt-type piece of metal and deputies confirmed the wounds were consistent with the statement, they said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

After the incident, deputies say that the suspect fled the scene on bicycle and it wasn't until around 8:20 p.m. that officials were able to locate and identify him. They said that someone living on the 100 block of Bluff Road reported Martinez Leonor knocking at his door.

Deputies responded and took Martinez Leonor into custody without incident. They say he is being held on bail set at $1,030,000.00.
