Prescribed burn happening Tuesday through Thursday in Paicines
PAICINES, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CAL FIRE BEU announced Monday that it will be holding prescribed burns in San Benito County if the weather permits.
They say the burns will be in the Paicines Area of San Benito County on Tuesday until Thursday and treat 493 acres.
The burn is to reintroduce fire back into the ecosystem and reduce hazardous fire fuels like downed brush and debris, according to CAL FIRE BEU. They also say that the prescribed burns are part of a larger strategic effort brought together throughout the state by both the California Fire Plan and Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan.
Prescribed burns are determined through factors like humidity, wind, moisture of the vegetation and conditions for dispersal of smoke, according to CAL FIRE BEU.
CAL FIRE also mentioned that smoke from the prescribed burns is likely and a normal part of the operation. They say that the Salinas Valley, Monterey and San Benito counties will be visible, with parts of Santa Cruz County being able to see smoke.
If weather conditions are unfavorable, CAL FIRE says that they will not go through with the prescribed burn.
