BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A no-parking rule goes into effect today on Coast Road at the Bixby Bridge along Highway 1, according to Cal Trans.

The County of Montereys says that the new rule is being put into place for traffic improvements that include better safety conditions on Highway 1.

With an increasing number of visitors parking along the side of Highway 1 as well as side roads, drivers are facing more dangerous conditions, according to the county.

K-rails and "no parking" signs will be installed by the county to warn drivers not to park on Coast Road, and CHP says that illegally parked cars will be ticketed and could be towed.
