MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 8/4/2020 12 p.m. The California Highway Patrol said a 37-year-old Pacific Grove man died in a crash on Highway 1 near Garrapata State Park Monday.

The CHP said a woman from Riverside was parked in a Honda on the west side of the road just north of Garrapata Creek Bridge preparing to make a U-turn while the Pacific Grove man and another 61-year-old man from Monterey were heading in that direction on motorcycles.

The driver thought the lane was clear and started to make the U-turn in the path of the motorcycles.

The motorcyclists were not able to avoid the crash, and one of them died as a result of his injuries. The other man had minor injuries.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
