PREVIOUS STORY: A 140-acre fire is currently threatening homes south of Lockwood in Monterey County Sunday night as crews continue to battle the fire into the night.
Multiple Cal Fire fireplanes spent Sunday evening making wave after wave over the flames in the Hunter Fire just outside of Lockwood along the hills.
The fire, which broke out early afternoon, is only 10 percent contained as of 9 p.m. Sunday night. There are multiple evacuations still in effect along Copperhead Canyon Road and Bryson-Hesperia Road.
At least 20 structures are under threat, including homes. Cal Fire says it is going to get harder to get control over the fire overnight.
"Operating at night is certainly difficult because of the reduced visibility," said Jonathan Pangburn, a Cal Fire spokesperson and unit forester. "However, firefighters will be taking advantage of the changing weather with the lower temperatures and higher relative humidity to be able to construct fire lines and try to make it so that we're defending life, property and the environment."
Another challenge is that there are not a lot of roads into where the fire is burning, so firefighters have tried finding ways to access the front lines in the battle to create containment lines.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Currently, there are no reports of injuries.
UPDATED 4:30 p.m. Cal Fire says about 20 structures are threatened and precautionary evacuations are in progress in Lockwood.
