Pajaro tenant’s rights workshop at Casa De La Cultura

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - People in Pajaro have expressed their want and need to know their rights as tenants after last year's flooding.

Now, the county says they are taking that feedback and providing a tenants rights workshop tonight.

The county says Pajaro has a large renting population. After last year's flooding, they say there was a lot of fear around people having bad experiences with their landlords.

The County of Monterey Department of Emergency Management says they hope to provide relief at this workshop by going through the rights people have as tenants, as well as going through the responsibilities tenants have when renting.

"We just want to provide this knowledge to empower the community because there is a lot of fear of what they don't know. And, a lot of them did have very bad experiences with their landlords after the floods last year. So it's very important to us to support them in this recovery," said Mindy Esqueda with the County of Monterey Department of Emergency Management.

The last workshop the Department of Emergency Management did was regarding mental health. They hope to have workshops on any other topics the people of Pajaro want to go over in the future.

This workshop will be tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Casa De La Cultura in Pajaro.
