Deadly crash involving two big rigs shuts down State Route 25 near Gilroy; CHP
GILROY, Calif. (KION-TV) – The CHP was on scene of a crash involving two big rigs on Monday at approximately 9:56 a.m. State Route-25 was closed between Bolsa Road and Shore Road, according to the CHP.
CHP said that the crash happened south of Bolsa Road, and that Party #1 (Pajwa) was driving Vehicle #1 (Freightliner) on SR-25 northbound at approximately 60 mph. Party #2 (Doe) was driving Vehicle #2 (Mack) on SR-25 southbound at approximately 40 mph.
"For unknown reasons Party #1 crossed over the double solid yellow lines into the southbound lanes into the direct path of Vehicle #1 and crashed head-on," according to the CHP. The CHP also says that both vehicles came to rest on the west shoulder with their trailers blocking the southbound lane.
"Party #1 was ejected from Vehicle #1 into the west shoulder and was flown to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained," said the CHP. "Emergency personnel attempted first aid however, Party #2 succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the crash."
The cause of the crash is under investigation. No alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in the cause of this collision.
CHP officials have one message for drivers.
"For all drivers, not just big rig drivers, it's important to stay in the moment, remain vigilant, keep your eyes on the road ahead of you. always, always drive defensively." said Captain and Commander, Noel Coady, with CHP Hollister-Gilroy.
