Enhanced security and law enforcement ahead of the 2024 election
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Monterey County Sheriff's office announced Monday evening that they are taking precautions ahead of the 2024 elections to ensure the public's safety.
They said that they're joining Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA), the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) and the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) in an effort to "secure the election process."
"We will have deputies patrolling our election facilities as well as conducting patrols in and around polling places throughout Monterey County," said Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto.
Nieto and other law enforcement officials are asking anyone who may see suspicious behavior around voting polls Tuesday, to call the Monterey County Sheriff’s non-emergency line at 831-755-5111 to report it immediately. If you are witnessing an emergency, call 9-1-1.
"Irrespective of the outcome of any of the offices up for election this year, law enforcement will work through any issue related to pre-election, Election Day, and post-election day activities to ensure public safety is paramount," the sheriff's office announced.
