The County of Monterey considers a roundabout at a popular intersection in Prunedale

PRUNEDALE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The County of Monterey is currently inviting the public to weigh-in on a potential roundabout being installed in Prunedale at the Castroville and San Miguel Canyon intersection.

Public review is scheduled through 5 p.m. on March 17, and the county is hoping that people will comment on how they think this will or will not impact traffic in the area.

"This project would replace the existing one-way stop-controlled intersection located at Castroville Boulevard and San Miguel Canyon Road with a single-lane roundabout," wrote the county in a statement Wednesday.

The county says that this project follows a community meeting that happened last August requesting resident and commuter feedback on navigating that intersection. The project was an Initial Study Mitigated Negative Declaration (ISMND) and is available for review and comment from the public, according to the county.

The county is offering three in-person review options:

  • The County of Monterey Public Works, Facilities and Parks Department (PWFP), 1441 Schilling Place, 2nd Floor, Salinas, CA 93901
  • Monterey County Free Library – Prunedale Branch, 17822 Moro Rd. Prunedale, CA 93907
  • Monterey County Free Library ‑ Castroville Branch, 11160 Speegle Street, Castroville, CA 95012

In addition to this, they say that a copy of the project report can be requested by emailing PWFPSupportStaff@countyofmonterey.gov or calling (831) 755‑4800.
