Media literacy panel in March tackles misinformation in print, broadcast news
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (KION) -- The Media Literacy Coalition welcomes news editors across the Central Coast to discuss misinformation with the public on March 1.
The panel will see six editors, including KION's news director Scott Rates, in a roundtable discussion dubbed "Publishing Fact-Based Journalism: The Critical Role of News Editors."
Misinformation has been a concern in the news industry over the last few years with editors facing the constant challenge of presenting and delivering fact-based journalism across television, radio, print and new media.
The panel will have the editors speak openly about their struggles and obstacles to get the facts and stories out to viewers, readers and listeners.
Others on the panel include Monterey County Weekly editor Sara Rubin, Monterey Herald managing editor Dave Kellogg, KAZU news director Amy Mayer, and Institute for Media and Public Trust at Fresno State University executive director Jim Boren.
The panel is free and open to the public and is being hosted by the Carmel Foundation on March 1.
