Prop. 47 funds heading to the Central Coast

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Governor Newsom's office announced that Prop. 47 will be lowering penalties for some nonviolent crimes, which allows for more state funding for mental health and substance-use support services.

The state said that $167 million in grants designed to direct savings from less incarceration to people looking to rehabilitate their lives, and will be given to a variety of California regions, including the Central Coast.

Governor Newsom's office says they're is delegating $6 million to the City of Seaside's recreation service department, $8 million to the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency and another $8 million to the Santa Cruz County Office of Education.
