More confederate symbols fading in Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A round patch of New Orleans green space where a larger-than-life statue of Confederate Gen.  Robert E. Lee once loomed over the landscape has officially been re-named Harmony Circle. The small urban park had been called Lee Circle ever since the 16-foot bronze statue was erected atop a 60-foot pedestal in the 1880s. The statue was removed in 2017. Thursday’s City Council vote to rename the park comes a day after the governing body in southwest Louisiana’s St. Landry Parish voted to remove a 102-year-old Confederate monument on the parish courthouse grounds.
