Indian officials end 3-day probe of BBC, alleging tax dodge

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s tax officials have ended their three-day search of the BBC offices in New Delhi and Mumbai for seeking information about the organization’s business operations amid allegations of tax evasion. Television images showed tax officials leaving in cars after spending nearly 60 hours at the BBC office in New Delhi, but they made no statement. BBC News tweeted that India’s income tax authorities have left its offices in Delhi and Mumbai and expressed the hope that matters will be resolved as soon as possible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s critics questioned the timing of the searches, which came weeks after the BBC aired a documentary critical of Modi in the U.K.
