Woman drives through playground, plunges off California dock
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A woman suspected of driving under the influence drove her car through a playground and off the side of a dock into the water at Southern California’s Newport Beach, authorities said.
Bystanders helped rescue the motorist as her car sank in Newport Bay Friday night, CBS Los Angeles reported.
“I turned around and got a piece of the pipe from the railing and I just bashed both of the windows in. From there someone was able to open the trunk and once they were able to open the trunk they had her out,” one of the rescuers, Jehu Jogwe, told CBS LA.
Newport Beach police did not release details on the car or the driver, who officials said was hospitalized but not seriously hurt. The woman could face charges including DUI.
There were no other injuries, police said.
The car plowed through a playground at Genoa Park before plunging off the dock, according to witnesses.
