Phoenix police officer shot, wounded; suspect in custody

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a 22-year-old Phoenix police officer is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot multiple times by a suspect who is in custody. Officer Tyler Moldovan was shot at an apartment complex parking area while officers looked for drivers of vehicles that had been driving erratically nearby about 2 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a car matching the description of one of the vehicles for was found parked at an apartment complex with nobody inside. Moldovan then discovered a suspect hiding behind a low apartment patio wall who shot the officer multiple times. Police say 24-year-old Essa Williams is jailed on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a weapon by prohibited person and resisting arrest.
