SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV) - In Seaside, a final salute took place for six Central Coast veterans who died over the years.

"[These] veterans from Monterey County who passed away in some unfortunate conditions. They were either homeless or had no next to Kin, or indigent, or all the above," Monterey County Veterans Affairs Office Director Jack Murphy said.

People came together at the the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery to honor those who bravely served with no family or loved ones to claim them. The six veterans honored were Andrew Brzostowski, David Schaeffer, Jeffrey Graham, John Mcconnell, Ralph Hucke, and Richard Wilkerson.

The event included full military honors with the playing of taps, presentation of the U.S. flag, and a military honor guard.

Organizers say it took a couple of months of working with the county coroner’s office to identify them along with working with cemetery staff to make today happen.
