Carmel-by-the-Sea vote to continue private courier service
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (KION) -- Carmel-by-the-Sea City Council voted to continue private courier service that delivers mail to those unable to pick up their own mail.
In the new resolution, the city is creating a contract with MoGo Express after years for working with Peninsula Messenger Services. The resolution would allow an extension to June 30 of this year with the option to extend after.
Those living in Carmel-by-the-Sea rely on P.O. boxes for their mail delivery as no homes in the city have home addresses. Yet, some residents cannot pick up their mail either due to age or disability.
The service has also been provided for free with those eligible filling out an application and providing a doctor's note. This also made it so that the overall cost of the service would be reduced.
Currently, approximately 90 people in Carmel-by-the-Sea use the service on a day-to-day basis. This cost the city about $7,500 a month, or $90,000 a year, to run.
