PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION) -- The City of Pacific Grove is hosting a community workshop Wednesday welcoming locals to draw their own maps for new districts. The City Council is transitioning away from the at-large city council elections to district elections.

The workshop focuses on teaching those interested on how to draw their own ideas for districts using online tools through the Dave's Map website. Meeting participants can sign-up and draw the lines which will then be emailed to the City Council.

Another option available is a "paper map" option that users can print out to draw their own mas at home. Those maps can then be scan and submitted in person or mailed to City Hall or emailed to skandell@cityofpacificgrove.org.

Once submitted, the redistricting maps will be discussed and considered at a City Council meeting on February 5th.

The transition comes after the City Council received a letter from Aidee Farias of the League of United Latin American Citizens on Aug. 23, 2024 requesting the change to comply with the California Voting Rights Act of 2001.
