CHICO (KOVR) – Officials say "clear indicators of arson" have been found in the investigation into what started the fire that destroyed the historic Bidwell Mansion in Chico.

California State Parks officials revealed their findings in a Tuesday press conference.

No other details about who may have started the fire were released, but authorities are continuing to try and gather more evidence. A QR code that links to an online tip form has been set up by Cal Fire, with investigators urging possible witnesses to upload any photos or videos relevant to the fire.

Work has been underway to clear the area since the Dec. 11 fire that ripped through the historic Victorian home.

The building, originally built in the 1860s, was undergoing renovations and was temporarily closed to visitors. Repair work was nearly complete, state parks officials said, when the fire took place.

State parks officials have stated that it's too early to talk about the future of the park and grounds.

California pioneer and Chico founder John Bidwell called the mansion home.
