DAVENPORT, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office confirmed Tuesday that at approximately 12:23 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of a family disturbance in Bonny Doon that involved two men brandishing a shotgun.

Before deputies arrived, they said that one of the suspects ran, reportedly taking the firearm with him. The suspect has been identified by sheriffs as 53-year-old Eric Britton of Bonny Doon and is now in custody with the sheriff's office.

Deputies said that they were able to locate the suspect's vehicle and the firearm in the Davenport area, securing both items.

Pacific Elementary School was placed on a shelter-in-place as a result, according to the sheriff's office, which has since been lifted.

Deputies say that a suspect has been identified and that they are actively working to locate and place him in custody.

They said that there is not an ongoing threat to the Davenport community at this time.

Witnesses told KION that they were stuck in a road closure on Highway 1, and saw very heavy police and sheriff presence in the area.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Britton are asked to contact 911.
