Marina Trader Joe’s draws hundreds of people to grand opening event

MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) - Marina's first-ever Trader Joe's store opened Wednesday morning to the delight of hundreds of people.

The doors to the new location opened at 9 a.m. following a ribbon cutting with store manager Christian Robbins and Trader Joe's crew members.

According to the Trader Joe's the nearly 10,000 square foot location hired more than 90 new employees, as well as transferred 30 other employees from neighboring locations.

The location is also located within walking distance of CSU Monterey Bay, attracting students to the new store.

"The other Trader Joe's is really far away and as college students without cars, this is really helpful, because it's only like a 10 minute walk off from campus. So it's exciting," CSUMB student Jocelyn Corona said.

The company adds, they will continue their longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, with this location donating 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a range of non-profit, community-based organizations, seven days a week.

The Marina location is located at 150 10th Street in the Monterey Retail Center and is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
