Bomb threat made to Prunedale Elementary School and neighboring districts Tuesday; Prunedale Elementary School

PRUNEDALE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Prunedale Elementary School announced Tuesday that the school received a bomb threat that said it would be activated on campus.

The threat came as an email to the school around 12:30 p.m. and triggered safety protocols on the campus.

Prunedale Elementary School initiated a school lockdown at 12:53 p.m. in response to a suggestion by School Resource Officer (SRO) Deputy Herrera.

Every student was accounted for and remained safe as the SRO along with the Monterey County Sheriff's Bomb Squad searched the area.

They found that similar threats had been made to neighboring school districts, and the lockdown was then lifted at 1:37 p.m.

School administration is encouraging parents to speak with their children regarding today's events, and will be offering counseling and assistance to those who might need it.
