Victim in deadly hit-and-run crash along Highway 1 identified

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CHP-Monterey confirms officers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash along Highway 1 near Aguajito Road.

The CHP says it happened around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday. Around that time they say a Black Honda was traveling northbound on Highway 1 when it was hit by what's being identified at this time as a silver Nissan.

Investigators say after the collision the Honda lost control, veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Officers say the Nissan didn't stop and continued driving north on Highway 1 and the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person killed in the Honda was identified by the coroner's office as 19-year-old Maddie Elizabeth Fletcher from Shelby, North Carolina.

Anyone with information is asked to contact CHP-Monterey.
