Major power outage on the peninsula election night
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) – A major power outage on the peninsula impacted over 7,500 customers on election night, according to the PG&E outage map.
"At about 7 p.m. this evening, PG&E was notified about an outage impacting about 7,600 customers in the Monterey area," said PG&E in a statement Tuesday. "Crews were able to respond within minutes and are working to restore power. The cause of the outage is under investigation."
The polling centers impacted by the power outage, included 381 Hight Street in Monterey, 1 Soledad Drive in Monterey and 77 Pearl Street in Monterey.
According to the County of Monterey, the power has been turned back on throughout polls in the county with little to no affect on calculating ballots.
The county says that they did have to rely on emergency power sources during the outage, but that the power has been fully restored.
The voting polls, Schulz Park Center as well as the fairgrounds, were not impacted.
