Connecticut approves constitution change easing restrictions on mail-in voting

Associated Press

Connecticut voters have decided to amend the state’s constitution and allow long-standing restrictions to be lifted on when residents are allowed to vote by absentee ballot. The blue state has been one of a handful that still require specific excuses for voting by absentee ballots. The change won’t happen right away. The General Assembly must decide whether to go ahead and create the new system. Tuesday’s vote comes after voters recently agreed to allow early voting, which took effect for the first time this year. Some Republican lawmakers have voiced concern with no-excuse absentee ballots, given the allegations of ballot misuse in Bridgeport, the state’s largest city.
