32-year-old man dead after two trucks crash Monday afternoon; CHP

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CHP confirmed Monday afternoon that a two-vehicle crash occurred on Monte Road, leaving the road closed and a 32-year-old man from Lockwood dead.

They said that a red truck was traveling northbound while a white pickup truck was traveling southbound. For a reason still under investigation, CHP says that the red pickup truck veered to the left and collided head on with the white pickup truck.

According to CHP, the red pickup truck went over the guard railing and crashed into the Salinas River below. They say that the driver of the red pickup truck died.

Officers are on scene and this story will be updated as KION receives more information. We have a reporter on scene now.
