Garbage truck fire shuts down right lane of Highway 17 Thursday

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Scotts Valley Fire confirmed Thursday that a truck that had caught fire on northbound Highway 17 near Sugarloaf Road posed threats to nearby vegetation before the fire department got on scene and put the fire out.

According to CHP, a garbage truck that caught fire shot flames out to nearby trees, but were quickly extinguished by the fire department

As a result of this fire, CHP had to close Lane 2 of Highway 17. CHP says the fire is now out but advises to avoid the area.
