Watsonville man killed in Highway 1 crash identified, sheriff’s office says

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY (KION-TV) - A 44-year-old Watsonville man who was killed in a late-night crash Sunday on Highway 1 north of Buena Vista Drive has been identified.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Coroner division identified the man as Robert Daley in a statement to KION on Tuesday.

Officials said, around 11:50 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a crash involving a white 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser traveling southbound on Highway 1. According to investigators, for unknown reasons the Toyota traveled off the roadway and crashing in a dirt embankment.

The car reportedly rolled over onto the right southbound lane of the highway, ejecting Daley. According to CHP, the driver sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. They add no other vehicles or people were involved in this crash.

The CHP previously told KION it's believed alcohol is a factor in this crash.
