44-year-old Aptos man killed in Highway 1 crash late Sunday night

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY (KION-TV) - A 44-year-old Aptos man was killed in a late-night crash Sunday on Highway 1 north of Buena Vista Drive, according to CHP. Additionally, investigators believe alcohol is a factor in this crash.

Officials said, around 11.50 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a crash involving a white 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser traveling southbound on Highway 1. According to investigators, for unknown reasons the Toyota traveled off the roadway and crashing in a dirt embankment.

The car reportedly rolled over onto the right southbound lane of the highway, ejecting the driver. According to CHP, the driver sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. They add no other vehicles or people were involved in this crash.
