CHP Santa Cruz arrest a reckless motorcycle driver for felony evasion

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- CHP Santa Cruz announced Thursday that they arrested a 24-year-old Scotts Valley resident for felony evasion and reckless driving after officers witnessed a blue motorcycle with red wheels performing a "pop a wheelie" on Southbound Highway 17 near Sugarloaf Road.

They say that they attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the driver instead fled the scene and a pursuit began.

CHP Santa Cruz says that after the motorcycle's attempted escape, he drove recklessly until exiting Highway 17 and crashing. The rider was taken into custody and it was discovered later that the same motorcycle had been involved in many pursuits with CHP Santa Cruz officers dating back to early summer, according to CHP Santa Cruz.

CHP officers say that they discontinued the previous pursuits for safety precautions.
