People head down to Santa Cruz beach to cool down from high temperatures
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) — Santa Cruz acting as a safe haven for people trying to cool off.
Temperatures rising across multiple places in the county, including the Santa Cruz mountains.
With temperatures soaring this weekend Santa Cruz has become a hotspot for both locals and tourists looking to escape the heat.
"It was just really hot in San Jose and I had the day off, so my dad and I came down to just enjoy the beach and the weather today," Kelsey Hilty from San Jose said.
Many are looking for ways to stay cool and refreshed during this heat wave.
The National Weather Service has issued heat alerts for the region, urging residents to be cautious while being outside.
"Lots of water and sun tan lotion," Kevin Hilty from San Jose said.
"Bring a hat, bring some sunglasses, sunscreen and plenty of water," Ahmed Aissi from Santa Cruz said.
Local businesses like the picnic basket that sits right by the boardwalk are also feeling the heat, the manager shared how the warm weather brings in more customers into his shop.
"Maybe a 20% bump in business is what we're anticipating this week because of it being hotter elsewhere than here," Rahul Ambani Manager of the Picnic Basket said.
As more visitors come into the area, local businesses are prepared to meet the demand.
"The influx isn't going to really impact things strategically in terms of staffing, in terms of production and stuff like that," Ambani said. "We're going to have everything on hand like cold drinks and ice cream."
Since while Santa Cruz itself is under an advisory, many areas around the region are under a warning including the Santa Cruz mountains.
