Deadly flooding in Central Europe made twice as likely by climate change

WASHINGTON (AP) — Human-caused climate change doubled the likelihood of the heavy rainfall that caused floods killing 24 people in Central Europe earlier this month, a new flash study found. A collection of scientists that run rapid climate attribution studies said on Tuesday that the severe four-day rainfall was by far the heaviest ever recorded in Central Europe. They also said the rainfall was about 7% to 10% more intense. And the scientists said it’s due to warming from the burning of coal, oil and natural gas. The European Union has pledged billions of euros in aid for countries affected.
